A family story on the shores of Lake Balaton
The story of Port began with a family tradition spanning several generations. The Balla family has lived in Balatonkeresztúr since the 1700s, making the proximity of Lake Balaton, respect for local values, and genuine hospitality an integral part of their lives..
György Balla Sr. and Éva Vajas Balla began working in tourism in 1985 and became actively involved in hospitality from 1994. Their years at the Kupa Restaurant in Balatonfenyves, followed by the Kismatróz Restaurant in Balatonmáriafürdő, laid the foundations of the philosophy that still defines Port today: attentive hospitality, high-quality ingredients, and a strong connection to Lake Balaton.
During the 2000s, the family also operated a winery under the name Balla Pince, achieving excellent results in local and regional wine competitions. In 2009, András Balla and György Balla Jr. established Pelso Guesthouse. Both hold qualifications in hospitality management and degrees in viticulture and oenology, complemented by studies in tourism, business management, and landscape architecture.
In 2011, the family opened its second own business, Port Restaurant, in the marina of Balatonmáriafürdő. Port preserves the values of its family heritage while embracing continuous renewal. For us, hospitality is more than a profession – it is a legacy built on care, presence, and the commitment to ensuring that every guest leaves with wonderful memories and returns with pleasure.
